Shantideva
18" x 24" ◊ Ground mineral pigment on cotton cloth
Shantideva was a Buddhist master from the monastic university at Nalanda, India. In the 8th century
he composed the important work, "A Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life".
The text provides instruction to practitioners of Mahayana Buddhism. Their task is live up to the ideal of the
Bodhisattva, who strives to work for the liberation of all sentient beings, rather than simply seeking their own liberation.
For as long as space endures
And for as long as sentient beings remain
until then may I too
abide to dispel the misery of the world.
